Licensing & Credential Requirements

CCI RCES or RCIS (cardiac electrophysiology specialist) certification is the standard credential for travel EP Tech positions. BLS and ACLS certifications are universally required. Most states, including Iowa, do not require a separate state license for cardiovascular technologists beyond national certification. However, verify current requirements with the Iowa Department of Health before accepting an assignment, as regulations can change. Experience with 3D mapping systems (CARTO, EnSite) is a primary hiring criterion. Device implantation experience (pacemakers, ICDs, CRT) is expected at most facilities. Some programs also expect competency with intracardiac echo (ICE) catheter operation.
