PCU / Stepdown

Step-Down / Medical-Surgical RN — Night Shift | Morgantown, WV

This 13-week contract places you on a combined step-down and medical-surgical floor running 12-hour nights (7 PM – 7:30 AM). Weekend and holiday rotation is required per the perm staff schedule.

Unit Overview

The unit manages a mixed step-down and general medical-surgical population. Common diagnoses include chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, ia, UTI, abdominal pain, and overflow from various services. The unit also supports patients transitioning to general inpatient hospice care.

Clinical Expectations

• Step-down patients require titration of drips; floor patients receive PCAs, heparin, and similar set-rate infusions
• RNs must independently read telemetry strips in conjunction with continuous monitoring by telemetry techs
• Charge nurse coverage is built into staffing, and a house supervisor is always available
• Nursing assistants support the unit when fully staffed
• Respiratory therapy manages ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP equipment

Schedule & Coverage

• Shift: 7 PM – 7:30 AM
• Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
• Weekend requirement: 2 weekends per schedule block
• Float requirement: May be pulled to any floor or step-down unit
• Cancellation policy: Up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license (willing to wait for licensure)
• BLS certification
• Telemetry strip-reading ability
• COVID vaccination required (exemption process available for medical or religious reasons)
• Primary residence must be more than 50 miles from the facility
