Registered Nurse

Medical/Surgical Unit (MSU) — Charge Nurse | Massena, NY

13-Week Contract | Days | 4x12 | Friday–Monday | Every Other Weekend

This role is based in a community hospital setting on a Medical/Surgical Unit serving adult and geriatric patients, including those undergoing detox. The unit does not accept inpatient pediatrics, and there is no ICU or OB service on site.

Schedule

• Four 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), Friday through Monday
• Every other weekend required

Role Expectations

• Perform charge nurse duties, often independently managing the MSU floor
• Cross-cover in the Emergency Department as needed, including and critical patient care
• Manage rapid response activations, new admissions, transfers to higher level of care, and AMA discharges
• Apply isolation procedures and support facility/bed diversion protocols

Interdisciplinary Support Available

Physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, phlebotomy, and unit secretary support

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of inpatient acute care or emergency department experience
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• ACLS and PALS certifications required
• Active New York RN license required (must be in hand at time of submission)
• Electronic health record experience required
• Float flexibility required

Additional Details

• Orientation: approximately 24 hours; additional support provided as needed
• COVID-19 vaccine not required
• First-time travelers welcome if experience requirements are met
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
• 13-week contract, start date November 30, 2026
