MedSurg / Orthopedic RN — Night Shift | Lexington, KY

13-Week Contract | Nights 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Every Other Weekend

This fast-paced MedSurg unit specializes in orthopedic and neurological surgical patients, with a high daily patient turnover. Common cases include elective joint replacements, spine and neuro surgery, and fracture management. Candidates with ortho or neuro experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Shift & Scheduling

• 12-hour nights, 7 PM – 7 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling available; staffing retains authority to adjust shifts prior to finalization
• Holiday commitment: 2 summer holidays and 3 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week

Clinical Details

• BLS (AHA) required
• RNs may manage heparin drips; titration required
• Centralized telemetry monitoring; must independently identify rhythms and respond to alerts
• Low volume of respiratory equipment; RN role limited to troubleshooting
• Charge nurse present each shift and carries a patient assignment
• Patient care techs on each shift supporting vitals, hourly rounding, glucose checks, and ambulation

Float & Orientation

• Floating to other med-surg/tele units is expected
• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided

Additional Requirements

• Scrub color: Galaxy blue
• BSN not required
• Active RN license required; willing to wait for licensure
• Up to 4 shift cancellations permitted per 13-week assignment
