Perioperative Nurse – PACU

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Perioperative Nurse for its Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This is a 13-week contract position working four 10-hour days per week, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

Clinical Scope

You will provide complex and routine nursing care to post-operative patients, utilizing the full nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Responsibilities include:

• Monitoring patients in immediate post-operative recovery, assessing for complications
• Administering medications and treatments per protocol; monitoring effectiveness and side effects
• Addressing psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
• Educating patients and caregivers on post-operative care and discharge planning
• Making appropriate assignments and delegating to support staff as needed
• Documenting patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
• Demonstrating leadership and independence in managing complex clinical situations

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
• Current RN License (Texas or compact state)
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA)
• 1+ year experience in perioperative nursing or recent OR/PACU practice preferred
• Perioperative RN Residency experience a plus

Onboarding

New hires complete orientation and competency validation within the first 30 days, with precepting by trained staff. Annual competency verification is required.
