PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Surgical Unit (PSU) — Travel RN

Richmond, VA | Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 13-Week Contract

This Progressive Surgical Unit cares for a diverse post-operative population following complex abdominal, vascular, and trauma surgeries. Procedures commonly seen on this unit include colon resections, Whipple procedures, liver and kidney surgeries, and vascular interventions, along with some medical overflow cases. Nurses manage cardiac drips (including Cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin) and are expected to perform rhythm interpretation every four hours.

Clinical Requirements

• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac monitors
• Must be comfortable administering narcotics
• Stepdown or post-surgical experience strongly preferred

Equipment Managed

Central lines, PCA pumps, epidurals, wound vacs, wound care, Foley catheters, and drains

Shift & Scheduling Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Float to Telemetry and Med-Surg as needed

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS

Additional Details

• Dress code: Navy scrubs
• Vitals and assessments every 4 hours
• Start date: November 23, 2026
