NICU Nurse – 13-Week Contract
The Role
Join the NICU team in a Level 3 unit caring for acutely ill and preterm infants. You'll manage patients with respiratory failure and other complex neonatal conditions. Pediatric experience is preferred.
Schedule & Logistics
- 12-hour day shifts (6:45 AM start)
- Every other weekend
- Rotating major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Self-scheduling with manager approval; schedules posted 4 weeks in advance
- Extra shifts and overtime available
- May float to other facilities in the Sacramento area (mid-shift float is rare)
- 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
Clinical Environment
- Hospitalist or Intensivist on-site
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Charge nurse on duty (generally no patient assignment; provides break relief)
- Nurse aides available per census
- Designated "Baby Friendly" facility with strong lactation support
Requirements
- Current RN license
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Navy scrubs; undershirts must be navy, white, or black
Contract Details
- 13-week assignment
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week period
