CVICU / CCU Travel RN — Houston, TX

12-Hour Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | 13-Week Contract

This cardiovascular/cardiac care unit manages high-acuity patients with diagnoses including heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, and MICU overflow. The unit operates on an open-unit model with cardiology fellow coverage available around the clock and intensivist management for MICU patients.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour days, 7a–7p
• Every other weekend required
• No self-scheduling; travelers fill open holes
• Holidays: days before or after may be required
• No call or standby requirement

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks | Guaranteed 36 hours/week
• Start: December 7, 2026
• Orientation: Two 12-hour shifts
• Cancellation policy: 4 shifts per 13-week assignment

Clinical Requirements

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of ICU/CVICU experience and prior travel experience in a high-volume setting. Must be proficient in:

• Ventilator management and emergency troubleshooting (self-extubation, trach dislodgement, competent suctioning)
• Vasopressor and drip titration: epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, cardene, clevidipine
• Hemodynamic monitoring: arterial lines, CVP, PAC
• Devices: IABP, Impella, CRRT, sheaths
• Sedation and paralytic management (BIS & TOF monitoring)
• Independent telemetry interpretation
• Floating to similar units (first to float)

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Additional Details

• Scrubs: Teal tops and bottoms; solid or coordinating non-terrycloth jacket
• Respiratory therapy on-site 24/7
