PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN | Hermitage, TN

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | 3 × 12-hour shifts per week

Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Start Date: October 19, 2026

Guaranteed Hours: 36/week

This PCU assignment places you in a collaborative, tech-supported unit caring for intermediate-acuity patients, including stroke and post-cardiac cath populations. The unit culture is team-oriented, with strong tech support and a track record of travelers extending their contracts.

Clinical Scope

• Patients requiring bipap, high-flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
• Cardiac, heparin, and insulin drip management
• Peritoneal dialysis (preferred experience), tube feedings, and NG/Dobhoff tube care
• Wound vac troubleshooting in collaboration with wound care team
• Procedures include: thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, Dobhoff/NG tube insertions, and central line dressing changes

Schedule & Float

• Every other weekend required
• May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors

Patient Experience Standards

• Hourly rounding on days; every-two-hour rounding on nights
• AIDET communication model; active maintenance of communication boards

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS and ACLS (required)
• Experience with bipap, high-flow O2, and advanced oxygen delivery systems
• Stroke and post-cardiac cath care experience
• Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred
