Registered Nurse – Acute Care Float

Location: Knoxville, TN

Shift & Duration:

Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3 days per week, 12-hour shifts)

13-week contract

Start date: ASAP

Position Overview:

The facility seeks an experienced RN for acute care float assignments across multiple clinical units. You will be assigned nightly by the nursing supervisor and will provide comprehensive care to adult patients with varying diagnoses and acuity levels.

Float Units Include:

Medical-surgical units, trauma, orthopedics, nephrology, cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular, pulmonary, neurology, joint replacement, GI, observation, and medical comfort care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and monitor patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound management and pain control
• Administer medications and treatments per orders
• Coordinate interdisciplinary care and assist with discharge planning
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions
• Document accurately in the electronic health record
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Typically manage 4–6 patients per shift (varies by unit acuity)

Requirements:

• Active, unencumbered RN license in Tennessee or multi-state compact license required at time of submission
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted
• Minimum 2 years acute care nursing experience
• BLS certification required
• ACLS preferred
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions available)
• Every-other-weekend availability
• Royal blue scrubs
