Labor & Delivery RN — Night Shift | Merced, CA | 13-Week Contract

This active Labor & Delivery unit averages 200–240 births per month and serves a highly diverse patient population. The unit is seeking experienced L&D nurses who are confident in high-acuity obstetric care and committed to a baby-friendly, evidence-based practice environment.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
• Holidays based on unit coverage
• Guaranteed 36 hours/week

Clinical Scope

• Circulate C-sections; experience with antepartum patients (including magnesium sulfate management)

• Strong IV skills required — no IV team available
• OB and labor hospitalist in-house 24/7; anesthesia on-call 24/7
• Satellite Level 2 NICU on-site for delivery attendance as needed
• Floats to postpartum; no circumcisions performed
• Hourly rounding, bedside report, and bedside documentation required

Unit Culture

• Baby-friendly designation with strict golden hour protocols; nurses often provide newborn care in postpartum
• Expectation to mentor and support newer nursing staff
• Collaboration with perinatal safety officer on evidence-based algorithms
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates strongly preferred

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, NRP
• AWHONN Intermediate EFM

Orientation

• 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation
• MyJourney modules completed during orientation, not prior to start

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks (start date: November 30, 2026)
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
