Labor & Delivery | 13-Week Travel Contract | Merced, CA

This active Labor & Delivery unit averages 200–240 births per month and serves a highly diverse patient population. The unit values strong, experienced nurses who are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and willing to mentor newer staff.

Shift Details

• 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Three weekend shifts per four-week period
• Holidays as needed
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, NRP
• AWHONN Intermediate EFM

Clinical Scope

• Must be able to circulate C-sections
• Antepartum patients, including magnesium sulfate management
• High-risk patients are generally transferred out
• Satellite NICU (Level 2) on-site attends deliveries as needed
• OB and labor hospitalist services in-house 24/7; anesthesia available 24/7
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
• Strong IV skills required; no IV team

Unit Culture & Expectations

• Baby-friendly and golden hour protocols strictly followed
• Hourly rounding, bedside report, and beside documentation required
• Evidence-based algorithms in active use; travelers meet with the perinatal safety officer
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates strongly preferred given the patient population
• No circumcisions performed on this unit
• Float to postpartum expected

Orientation & Scheduling

• 3-shift unit-specific orientation
• Set or blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week contract

Scrubs are provided by the facility.
