NICU Nurse – 13-Week Contract

Unit Overview

Join a Level 3 NICU caring for 26–30 patients. You'll manage high-acuity neonates with respiratory failure and preterm conditions. The facility is designated baby-friendly with excellent breastfeeding support. No cardiac surgery or defect repair cases.

Schedule & Hours

• 12-hour day shifts (6:45 AM start; bedside report)
• Every other weekend rotation
• Rotating holidays with core staff (you'll work 2 of 3 major holidays)
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Self-scheduling with manager balance; schedules posted 4 weeks out
• Overtime and extra shifts available

Clinical Environment

• Charge nurse role available (generally no patient assignment, handles break relief)
• Nurse aides on staff as census allows
• Hospitalist or intensivist in-house 24/7
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
• Ventilator management included

Orientation & Support

• 1–2 days floor orientation with preceptor
• May float to other facilities in the Sacramento area (mid-shift float rare)
• First-to-float assignment

Requirements

• Current RN license (CA)
• BLS (AHA) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications required
• Pediatric experience preferred
• Two supervisory references at time of submittal (one within 12 months, one within 3 years)
• Copy of valid government-issued ID required

Dress Code

Navy scrubs with navy, white, or black undershirts. Scrub jackets optional.
