Nursing Position – Medical/Surgical & Cardiac Observation Unit

Position Overview

Join a busy, fast-paced medical/surgical and cardiac observation unit. This role offers 12-hour night shifts with exposure to diverse patient populations and clinical skill-building in cardiac monitoring and medication management.

Shift & Scheduling

• Schedule: 12-hour nights (7p–7a), every-other-weekend rotation
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Time-off requests must be specified upfront in your contract

Clinical Scope

You'll care for patients across a range of conditions including:

• Pre- and post-catheterization cases
• Chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips
• COPD and CHF management
• Arrhythmias and pacemaker patients
• General medical/surgical diagnoses

The unit typically discharges 6+ patients daily and admits 6+ new admissions, requiring strong organizational skills and flexibility.

Required Skills & Certifications

• BLS and ACLS (AHA)
• Current RN license
• EKG strip interpretation
• Experience administering set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone
• TR band experience is a strong plus

Responsibilities

• Medication administration and monitoring
• EKG interpretation and performance
• Bladder scans, finger-stick blood glucose monitoring
• Vital signs and patient care documentation
• Bipap/Cpap support therapy (supportive use only)

Additional Details

• Charge nurse on-site 24/7
• May float to other hospital units (ICU/stepdown) with appropriate patient assignments
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Orientation: 1 day computer training + 1 day floor shadowing
