Med Surg

Medical-Surgical RN | Nights | Des Moines, IA | 13-Week Contract

This night-shift travel opportunity is on a med-surg unit managing a diverse, complex patient population including post-tPA (TNK), orthopedic, cranial and spinal neurosurgery (laminectomies), and polytrauma cases. Candidates who thrive in high-acuity med-surg environments with strong neuro and ortho experience will be well-suited for this role.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights, 4x12-hour shifts (48 hrs/week); 3x12 schedule may be accommodated
• No call required
• Weekends: every other or every third, including holiday rotation
• 1–2 winter holidays required

Clinical Scope

• Drips and titrations: heparin infusions, PCAs, 3% sodium
• Equipment: telemetry, lift equipment, chest tubes, high-flow nasal cannula therapy
• Float requirement across med-surg units at multiple campuses

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of Stepdown, Progressive Care, or Med-Surg RN experience
• Neuro/neurology clinical experience
• Ortho/orthopedic clinical experience
• Experience administering heparin drips and PCAs
• Proficiency with lift equipment, chest tubes, and high-flow nasal cannula devices
• At least one completed travel contract within the past 12 months (no first-time travelers)
• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
• BLS (AHA or ARC) — current and active
• NIHSS certification (may be obtained during onboarding)

Preferred Qualifications

• Trauma care experience
• Experience administering 3% sodium
• ACLS certification
