Trauma & General Surgery — Step-Down / Med-Surg RN | Nights | Morgantown, WV

This inpatient unit blends step-down and medical-surgical care within a fast-paced Trauma and General Surgery setting, also recognized as a Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center. Nurses here care for a wide variety of high-acuity patients and routinely practice at the top of their scope.

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

• Multi-trauma, traumatic brain injuries, complex spinal cord injuries
• Chest-wall injuries requiring chest tube management and respiratory support
• General surgery patients (cholecystectomies, ostomies, and more)
• Bariatric surgery patients
• Complex wound care involving drains and devices
• Step-down drips include insulin and Cardizem (non-pressors); floor patients may have heparin or PCAs

Unit Details

• Both floor and step-down patients on the same unit
• Telemetry monitored by monitor techs; RNs must be able to validate rhythm strips
• Clinical Associates support patient care; charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
• Respiratory therapy available around the clock

Schedule & Requirements

• 12-hour nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend or 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Floating to similar floor/step-down units required
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Scrub color: Royal Blue

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Start date: October 31, 2026
• Cancellation policy: Up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract

Required Qualifications

• Prior trauma experience (required)
• Proficiency with electronic health records (required)
• Experience with complex wound care, chest tubes, TBI, and spinal cord injuries
• BLS certification required
