PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN | Night Shift | Eureka, CA

Contract: 13 weeks | Shift: Nights, 3×12-hour (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Start: November 2026

This PCU/Stepdown position serves an adult and geriatric population requiring intermediate-level cardiac and medical monitoring. The unit manages complex patients across progressive care and medical-surgical acuity levels, with robust interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and social services.

Clinical Scope & Skills Required

• Cardiac telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Management of cardiac drips, Heparin protocols, and BiPAP/CPAP
• Pre/post cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery care
• Central line and PICC line management
• Blood product administration and procedural sedation monitoring
• Non-invasive airway management and oxygen administration
• Feeding tube care and IV placement/maintenance

Certifications Required

• ACLS, BLS, NIHSS

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU, Stepdown, or ICU experience
• Clinical experience must be current (within the last 6 months)
• Valid compact RN license in hand at time of submission
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• 2 professional references covering the past 3 years

Scheduling Notes

• No call or weekend requirements specified
• Must commit to working 3 of the following 5 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day
• All RTO requests must be submitted upfront; post-offer requests may not be accommodated
• Floating to nearby sister facilities may be required
