Behavioral Health RN – Brooklyn, NY
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join its behavioral health unit. You will provide direct nursing care to patients with acute and chronic psychiatric and behavioral health conditions in a fast-paced, clinically demanding environment.
Shift & Schedule
Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
13-week contract
Start date: November 23, 2026
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN license (or valid compact license)
- BLS certification (AHA)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Managing Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
- Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years of emergency department experience
- Primary Source Verification
- ADN or BSN; BSN preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients using mental status exams and risk assessments (suicide, self-harm, aggression)
- Administer and monitor psychotropic medications for therapeutic effect and side effects
- Implement de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to maintain safety
- Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities aligned with treatment plans
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and interdisciplinary teams on patient care
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, and coping strategies
- Monitor for behavioral escalation and respond appropriately
- Maintain accurate, thorough documentation
- Support a safe, therapeutic milieu per facility protocols
Required Skills
Crisis intervention, de-escalation, behavioral health assessment, medication administration, and strong communication in a high-acuity psychiatric setting.
