Medical-Surgical Nurse — 13-Week Contract

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Nurse for a 13-week contract on the night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) in Brooklyn, NY. You'll provide comprehensive care to adult patients with a diverse range of medical and surgical conditions, managing typical patient loads of 4–6 patients per shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care in consultation with the healthcare team
• Monitor vitals and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating concerns promptly
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders; prepare and record all medications
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound dressing changes, catheter insertion, and IV therapy
• Perform and interpret telemetry monitoring; adjust specialized medical equipment as needed
• Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, diagnoses, medications, and discharge instructions
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary staff on discharge planning
• Maintain accurate documentation in the medical record
• Adhere to infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• Active RN license in New York State with primary source verification
• Minimum 2 years of Med-Surgical nursing experience in an acute care setting (recent experience preferred)
• AHA BLS certification
• AHA ACLS certification
• ADN (or higher); BSN preferred
• Strong physical assessment, medication administration, IV therapy, and wound care skills
• Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and post-operative care

Preferred Qualifications

• CMSRN certification
• EMR experience
