Orthopedic Operating Room Nurse
Location: Birmingham, AL
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Duration: 13 weeks
Schedule: 36 hours per week
About the Role
The facility's orthopedic operating room is seeking experienced OR nurses to provide circulating and/or scrub support for a variety of orthopedic surgical procedures. You'll work alongside surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical teams in a fast-paced environment focused on patient safety and procedural excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform circulating and/or scrub nursing duties during orthopedic cases
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, and equipment
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and verify surgical site, consent, and procedure per protocol
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts before, during, and after procedures
- Monitor patient status and safety throughout surgical procedures
- Manage supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper function
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and post-operative handoff
- Document intraoperative care accurately in the patient record
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure smooth case flow
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years' recent orthopedic OR experience
- Travel nursing experience required
- Ability to function in both circulating and scrub roles
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- CNOR certification preferred
