Operating Room Nurse – 13-Week Travel Contract

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Schedule: 36 hours/week

Start Date: November 30, 2026

About the Role

The facility's main operating room is seeking an experienced OR nurse to provide circulating and/or scrub support across a variety of surgical specialties, including general surgery, orthopedic, GYN, urology, and ENT procedures.

You'll manage sterile fields and instrumentation, perform pre-operative assessments and site verification, conduct accurate instrument and needle counts, and monitor patient safety throughout cases. You'll collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and the surgical team to ensure smooth case flow and efficient patient handoffs to PACU.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in Alabama (or compact license)
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Minimum 1+ years of general OR experience
• Ability to function in both circulating and scrub roles
• 2+ years recent experience in your specialty (travel nursing experience required)

Preferred

• BSN (ADN accepted per facility policy)
• CNOR certification

What You'll Do

• Prepare and maintain sterile field, instruments, and equipment
• Perform pre-op assessments and verify consent and surgical site
• Conduct counts before, during, and after procedures
• Monitor patient status and safety throughout surgery
• Manage supplies, equipment, and instrumentation
• Document intraoperative care accurately
• Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and post-op care
