Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Registered Nurse
Burlington, NC | Nights | 13-Week Contract
This Cardiac PCU position focuses on the care of adult patients with complex cardiac and secondary respiratory conditions. First-time travelers are welcome.
Shift & Schedule
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | 3×12-hour shifts
- Weekend rotation and holiday coverage as needed
- Self-assisted scheduling distributed across a 6-week cycle based on departmental need and patient acuity
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
The unit manages cardiac patients across a range of diagnoses including congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, syncope, pacemaker placement, and pre/post cardiac catheterization (with and without intervention). Secondary focus includes respiratory conditions such as COPD, ia, and BiPAP-dependent patients. All rooms are remotely monitored by a centralized cardiac monitoring department.
Required Skills
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- On-unit telemetry monitoring
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization care
- Peripheral line and PICC line management
- Cardiac and vasoactive drip management, including titration
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Chest tube management
- External CPAP/BiPAP management
- Tracheostomy care
- Rapid Response Team utilization
Support Staff: Nurse assistants available 24/7; unit secretary 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac PCU experience
- Active RN license in hand at time of submission
- BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS preferred
- Previous Charge RN experience preferred
- EKG compliance exam required (2 attempts allowed)
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Floating to additional campuses may be required
- COVID-19 and flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
