Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN | Greensboro, NC
13-Week Contract | Days | 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM | 3x12s
This progressive care position is ideal for a travel RN with strong telemetry and cardiac skills. First-time travelers are welcome.
Schedule & Coverage
- Day shift, 3x12s (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Every other weekend; holidays as needed
- No on-call required
- Float to additional campuses within the health system as needed
Unit Overview
The progressive care unit serves adult and geriatric patients with moderate-to-high acuity, providing 24/7 centralized cardiac monitoring. The interdisciplinary team includes nurse technicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, rehabilitation staff (OT, PT, Speech), and transition of care coordinators.
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Sepsis, COPD, ia, heart failure
- Acute coronary syndrome (excluding STEMI), pre- and post-cardiac catheterization
- Arrhythmias, hypertensive crisis, stroke/TIA
- Chest tubes (lower volume), tracheostomies, acute renal failure, GI hemorrhage, endocrine disorders
Required Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- BiPAP/CPAP management
- Chest tube management
- Cardiac and vasoactive drip management; insulin drip titration
- Non-invasive airway management
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/stepdown experience
- Active RN license in hand at time of submission
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Must pass a compliance EKG exam (2 attempts allowed)
- No local candidates within 50 miles
- Start date: November 16, 2026
