Behavioral Health Nurse – Brooklyn, NY
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a compassionate, skilled Registered Nurse for a behavioral health unit. You'll provide direct care to patients with acute and chronic psychiatric and behavioral health conditions in a therapeutic, structured environment.
Shift & Duration
7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
13-week contract
Start date: November 23, 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments, including mental status exams and suicide/self-harm risk evaluations
- Administer and monitor psychotropic medications for therapeutic effects and side effects
- Implement de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention to maintain patient and staff safety
- Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities aligned with treatment plans
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and interdisciplinary teams on care coordination
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, and coping strategies
- Monitor for escalating behavior and respond promptly to safety concerns
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu and accurate EMR documentation
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN license with primary source verification from NYSED
- Associate's degree (ADN) or Bachelor's degree (BSN) from an accredited nursing program
- AHA BLS certification
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Managing Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
- Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience
- Demonstrated competency in crisis intervention and de-escalation

- BSN degree
- Extended behavioral health background
