Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Location: Elizabethtown, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week (weekend and holiday rotation)

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: December 14, 2026

About the Role

The facility is seeking an experienced RN for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You'll provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients who require closer monitoring than general medical-surgical units but not intensive care-level intervention. This is an ideal role for nurses who thrive in a dynamic step-down environment managing patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments using the nursing process and evidence-based practice
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in condition
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and interdisciplinary team members on individualized care plans
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery expectations
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) per acuity and staffing guidelines
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Participate in unit quality improvement and core measures initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
• ADN or ASN; BSN preferred
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1+ year of PCU or step-down nursing experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and collaborative skills

Preferred Qualifications

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
