Medical-Surgical Telemetry Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Telemetry nurse for night shift work. You'll provide direct care to a diverse patient population including post-stroke and TIA patients, as well as surgical and cardiac overflow cases.

Shift & Contract Details

• Schedule: Night shift, 3x12-hour (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Start: ASAP
• Location: Downey, CA

• Weekend Coverage: Required

Required Qualifications

• Current California RN license
• Minimum 2 years Med-Surg/Telemetry experience
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Charge nurse experience required
• Advanced EKG competency (80% pass requirement on onsite exam)

Core Responsibilities

• Continuous telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Central line, PICC line, and peripheral IV management
• Pre/post hemodialysis care for renal failure patients
• IV insulin protocols, heparin protocols, and PCA management
• Airway support: tracheostomy care, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula
• Chest tube and surgical drain management
• Arterial blood gas interpretation
• Rapid response team coordination
• Wound care and wound vac management
• Blood product administration and isolation precautions

Unit Environment

Daily census of 36 patients across all age groups (adolescents, adults, geriatrics). Strong interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, IV teams, physical therapy, pharmacy, and radiology.

Pre-Assignment Requirements

• Advanced EKG exam (two attempts permitted before start; one onsite attempt only)
• Required clinical and non-clinical modules prior to assignment start
• References and copy of certifications required at submission

Important Notes

• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
• Time off requests locked after submission; no RTO first two weeks
• Maximum 3 days RTO per contract
• Holiday work mandatory
