PCU / Neuro Stepdown — Nashville, TN

Day Shift | 13-Week Contract | 36 Hours Guaranteed

This combined Acute Care and Neuro Stepdown unit provides a dynamic environment for nurses with strong neurological and progressive care backgrounds. The unit manages stroke patients on the acute side and higher-acuity neuro stepdown patients requiring closer monitoring and intervention.

Shift & Schedule

• Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Weekend shifts required
• Floating may occur after orientation for experienced nurses

Clinical Scope

• Acute Care side: Stroke-focused patient population; care includes high-flow oxygen therapy, chest tubes, suction, and various drip management
• Neuro Stepdown: BiPAP, trach management, titrating cardiac drips
• Common procedures: lumbar puncture and chest tube placement
• Bedside shift report, daily huddle, and patient-centered connection are expectations

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS required for all candidates
• ACLS required for Neuro Stepdown candidates
• Strong acute care nursing skills and time management
• Stepdown experience preferred for the Neuro Stepdown role
• Critical thinking skills essential

Dress Code

• Black, any shade of blue or gray scrubs
• Any color scrubs on Fridays

This unit is an excellent stepping stone for nurses looking to advance toward critical care. Staff support includes a charge RN, unit secretary, and 1–2 patient care techs on the floor.
