Neuro Stepdown / Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) — Registered Nurse

Morgantown, WV | Nights | 13-Week Contract

This position supports a combined Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit caring for higher-acuity neuroscience patients, including those with stroke, seizure disorders, post-craniotomy status, and EVD management. The EMU component serves patients undergoing epilepsy monitoring.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Three shifts per week; consecutive shifts possible but not guaranteed — flexibility required
• Every other weekend or two weekend shifts per schedule
• Holiday rotation participation required

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed hours: 48 per week
• Cancellation policy: 2 shifts per contract

Clinical Scope

• Patient population: stroke, post-TPA (within first 24 hours managed by permanent staff), craniotomy, seizures, EVDs (preferred experience; complex EVD patients typically assigned to permanent staff)
• Titratable drips per physician/protocol order (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin)
• Respiratory therapy available around the clock; RN vent experience not required
• Telemetry present on unit; RNs are not required to read strips
• Charge nurse coverage 24/7; nursing aides on each shift
• Float possibility to nearby medical-surgical and stepdown units

Required Certifications & Skills

• BLS (required)
• NIHSS (required — must be current at time of submission)
• ACLS (preferred)
• Strong neuro experience with demonstrated stroke patient care
• History of NIHSS assessment implementation
