Pediatric PACU — Travel RN | San Diego, CA

Day Shift | 4x10 Hours | 13-Week Contract

This pediatric PACU position serves a patient population ranging from neonates through young adults across two surgical centers, each with dedicated Pre-op, Phase I PACU, and Phase II PACU areas. The unit manages high-acuity post-operative patients requiring skilled airway management, extubation, pain control, cardiac monitoring, fluid and electrolyte management, and discharge planning.

Shift Details

• 4x10-hour day shifts with variable start times (10:30 AM or 12:30 PM, or earlier based on department need)
• On-call: 1 call shift per weeknight or 1 call shift every other weekend as needed; 1 holiday call required
• Full weekend availability required; no blocked scheduling
• PACU is closed on select major holidays

Clinical Scope

• Most Phase I patients arrive extubated; anesthesiologist and circulating RN transport from OR
• Procedures include general, ortho, neuro/spine, ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, urology, cath lab recovery, and more
• PICU-experienced RNs are welcomed; unit will provide PACU-specific training

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year pediatric hospital experience (PACU, PICU, or Pediatric ED)
• Active California RN license (pending license accepted with confirmed ETA)
• BLS/CPR and PALS (both AHA)
• Associate's degree minimum
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates (within 50 miles) are not eligible

• Flu vaccine required; no exemptions
• Maximum 6 days RTO for the contract
• 40-hour orientation; up to 10 hours of pre-start modules required
