Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse
Location: Elizabethtown, KY
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3x12 (weekend and holiday rotation)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Start Date: December 14, 2026
About the Role
The facility's Progressive Care Unit serves patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but below ICU acuity. You'll provide skilled nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care or at risk of clinical deterioration, managing moderate complexity cases with continuous cardiac and vital sign monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and manage moderate-acuity patients with attention to cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic changes, and clinical deterioration
- Administer medications including select IV drips per physician orders
- Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team on individualized care plans
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Manage a typical load of 3–4 patients per shift
- Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Delegate and oversee team members in delivery of patient care
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
- BLS certification
- 1+ years of PCU or step-down unit experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- ADN or ASN (BSN preferred)
Preferred
- ACLS and PCCN certifications
- Previous nursing experience in progressive care settings
