Psychiatric Nurse / Mental Health Technician — Night Shift

Location: Kansas City, MO

Shift: Nights (19:00–07:00), four 12-hour shifts per week

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week

Start Date: August 3, 2026

About the Role

The facility operates several psychiatric units serving diverse patient populations across the lifespan and acuity spectrum. You'll work on one or more of these settings based on daily staffing needs:

• Adolescent Unit – Patients ages 12–18
• Adult Lower-Acuity Units – Stabilized patients requiring ongoing psychiatric support
• Adult Higher-Acuity Unit – Patients with thought disorders and complex psychiatric presentations
• Senior Unit – Older adults with mental health and behavioral needs

Your responsibilities include comprehensive mental health assessment, crisis intervention, de-escalation, medication administration and monitoring, and development of individualized care plans. You'll build therapeutic relationships through empathetic communication, active listening, and consistent, trauma-informed approaches.

Requirements

• Current BLS and CPI certifications (required to submit)
• Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications and side-effect monitoring
• Ability to assess psychiatric status, behavioral changes, and physical symptoms

Unit Details

• Staffing model: Cross-unit float based on daily census and acuity
• Dress code: Blue (nurses) or green/black (MHTs)
• Seven-day-a-week operations with weekend coverage required
