Pre-Op / Outpatient Surgery RN — San Luis Obispo, CA

13-Week Contract | Days | Monday–Friday

This outpatient surgery unit provides pre- and post-operative care for patients across the full age spectrum — infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. The unit operates at a steady, fast-paced tempo with a focus on thorough assessment, patient education, and safe discharge planning.

Shift Details

• Monday–Friday, variable days (3 × 12-hour shifts)
• Start times vary: 5:00 AM, 7:00 AM, or 8:00 AM
• Schedules are set on 6-week cycles — you'll know your days in advance
• No call required
• Guaranteed 36 hours/week

Clinical Scope

• Pre-operative assessment, preparation, and education
• Post-operative Phase II recovery
• ECG/rhythm interpretation and cardiac monitoring
• Recognition and management of cardiac or respiratory emergencies
• Delegation of care tasks to ancillary staff within scope of practice

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in California (or compact equivalent)
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
• Completion of a basic cardiac arrhythmia course required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Pre-Op/Perioperative experience (OR experience does not substitute)
• Experience in pre/post-op diagnostic cath lab preferred
• Familiarity with electronic health records required

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
