Stepdown RN – Cardiac/Medical-Surgical | Uniontown, PA
Contract: 13 weeks | Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Hours: 36 guaranteed hours/week
Schedule & Availability
- Three 12-hour day shifts per week
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Every other holiday required (Christmas or New Year's)
Unit Overview
This stepdown unit focuses heavily on cardiac patients, managing dysrhythmias, CVAs, and patients downgraded from the ICU. The unit serves a diverse acuity mix in a private-room setting. Nurses serve as the central telemetry monitoring station for the hospital, making strip interpretation a daily responsibility.
Clinical Requirements
- Read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
- Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips: Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin (insulin is set-rate only; no sedation drips)
- Manage patients on BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow oxygen therapy
- Float to the ICU in a supportive/helping hands capacity as needed
Required Certifications
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (all must be current and unexpired)
Support & Resources
- In-house hospitalist coverage 24/7; intensivist available daily with on-call after hours
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy in-house 24/7
- Daytime charge nurse carries no patient assignment; CNAs available days and mid-shift
- Orientation: 2 preceptored shifts; block scheduling available
Scrubs: Navy blue (jackets must also be navy blue)
Cancellation Policy: Up to 2 shifts may be cancelled during a 13-week contract
