NICU Registered Nurse — Night Shift | Santa Cruz, CA
13-Week Contract | 12-Hour Nights (7p–7a)
This community-level NICU cares for a diverse neonatal population including rule-out sepsis, premature and late-preterm infants, infants of diabetic mothers, and neonates with neonatal abstinence syndrome. No surgical patients. The unit operates as a locked environment, with infants dischargeable directly home or transferred to pediatrics as appropriate. Laboratory draws are handled by lab staff.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays worked within core rotation
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
Clinical Environment
- Neonatologist or pediatrician available on-call 24/7
- Respiratory therapy on-site 24/7 managing ventilators
- Pharmacy support 24/7
- Charge nurse present; no nurse aides on unit
- No IV team; no floating requirement
- Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts
Required Certifications
- BLS
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

- BSN not required; active RN license required
- Cancellation policy: up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
