Labor & Delivery Nurse

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 8 weeks

Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week

About the Role

The facility's Labor & Delivery unit seeks an experienced nurse to provide comprehensive care to antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients. You will perform head-to-toe assessments, manage labor progression, administer medications safely, and provide patient and family education. You'll work collaboratively with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe outcomes for mothers and newborns.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform maternal and fetal assessments, including continuous monitoring and reassessment per protocol
• Assess and manage pain using evidence-based techniques; educate patients and families on pain management options
• Develop, implement, and revise individualized care plans based on patient response
• Administer medications following the five rights; maintain knowledge of age-appropriate drug administration
• Create and evaluate patient teaching plans; involve families in learning and discharge planning
• Maintain a safe environment and reduce the risk of medical errors
• Communicate clearly with the care team, patients, and families
• Coordinate with Care Coordination on in-hospital and post-discharge needs
• Document care per facility standards
• Maintain all required competencies, including bedside blood glucose testing

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of L&D experience
• Postpartum and nursery experience required
• Active RN license (Ohio or compact state)
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications (AHA)
• BSN preferred
• Flexible, organized approach to high-acuity situations
