Pediatric PACU – Travel RN | San Diego, CA

4x10 Days | 13-Week Contract | Start: November 9

This pediatric PACU position is open to experienced Pedi PACU, Pedi PICU, or Pedi ER nurses. PICU-trained candidates without PACU experience are welcome — the unit manager will provide training to transition into the PACU environment.

Shift Details

• 4x10-hour day shifts; variable start times between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM (or earlier based on department need)
• Weekend availability required with full scheduling flexibility
• On-call commitment: one weeknight call shift per week or one call shift every other weekend; one holiday call shift as needed
• The unit closes for select holidays; holiday call coverage is required

Clinical Scope

The unit provides Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery for a pediatric population ranging from neonates to young adults. Phase I RNs receive patients directly from the OR — most arrive extubated — and manage airway assessment, extubation, pain control, cardiac monitoring, fluid and electrolyte management, procedural sedation recovery, and discharge. Surgical specialties include ortho, neuro/spine, ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, urology, general surgery, and more.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of pediatric hospital experience (children's hospital preferred)
• California RN license (in hand or with confirmed ETA)
• BLS/CPR and PALS (both AHA)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates (within 50 miles) not accepted

• Scrub color: Any
• Floating: Within the hospital only; no sister-facility float
• Orientation: 40 hours
• Flu vaccine required; no exemptions
• Maximum 6 days RTO for the contract
