Progressive Care Unit – RN

Location: Louisville, KY

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, days (every other weekend per unit need)

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role

The facility's progressive care unit serves patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but not ICU-level intensity. You'll manage moderate-acuity patients, including those transitioning from ICU care or at risk of clinical deterioration. This observation unit demands strong assessment skills, clinical judgment, and the ability to respond quickly to changes in patient condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients)
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; identify and respond to clinical changes
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Assess and manage patients at risk of deterioration; collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the EMR
• Uphold infection control and fall prevention protocols

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (or compact license)
• 1+ years of progressive care or step-down unit experience
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification
• ADN or BSN
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management

Preferred Qualifications

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse)
