About the Unit
This is an all-telemetry PCU focused on neurological and neurosurgical patients. The unit manages a high-acuity population including TIA/stroke, subdural hematoma, and post-operative neurosurgical patients (ACDF, TLIF, XLIF, craniotomy). Four designated beds support continuous EEG monitoring for an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Cardiac drips — primarily nicardipine and heparin — are administered on this unit, with capability for additional vasoactive agents (no titration of cardiac drips).
Most admissions arrive from the ED, ICU, or PACU. The team uses a strong interdisciplinary approach, collaborating closely with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Pharmacy, Respiratory Services, and Rapid Response Teams.
