PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN | Night Shift | Johnson City, TN

Shift: Nights, 3x12-Hour (18:30–07:00)

Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Start Date: November 15, 2026

Schedule Options: 36/36, 36/48, or 48/48 available

Unit Overview

This PCU manages a high-acuity stepdown population including trauma ICU stepdown patients across adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. The unit provides 24/7 phlebotomy, rapid response, and supervisor support.

Clinical Skills Required

• Cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Central line, PICC line, and tracheostomy care; care of ventilated patients
• Blood product administration, heparin protocols, IV insulin protocols
• Pre/post cardiac cath, post-MI care, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury
• Chest tubes, surgical drains, wound care/wound VAC, PCA management
• Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure, ortho trauma

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; at least 1 year of PCU experience within the past 2 years required (must be documented in work history)
• AHA BLS and AHA ACLS (AHA certification only accepted)
• NIHSS certification required
• First-time travelers welcome
• Must reside 100+ miles from the facility's service area

Important Compliance Notes

• Must pass a Relias advanced EKG test within 72 hours of offer acceptance (two attempts allowed)
• Drug screen must be completed 12–14 days prior to start
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered); COVID-19 vaccine not required
• Orientation begins Sundays; includes approximately 4–5 hours of non-billable online modules
