Emergency Room RN — Santa Cruz, CA

13-Week Contract | 12-Hour Mids | 36 Guaranteed Hours/Week

This busy Emergency Room opportunity places you in a high-volume department managing a diverse mix of adult and pediatric patients presenting with acute and emergent conditions. The department sees an average of 150 patients per day, including psychiatric holds and a significant homeless population — requiring nurses who are adaptable, compassionate, and ready to hit the ground running.

Shift Details

• 12-hour mid shifts with varying start times (10a, 11a, 1p, or 3p)
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays integrated into the permanent staff rotation
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated

Clinical Environment

• Fast Track area staffed by mid-level providers
• In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage 24/7
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Daytime pharmacy support within the department
• Ventilator-capable unit
• No IV team; nurses manage independently
• No floating required
• Two-shift unit-specific orientation

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC
• Moderate Conscious Sedation competency testing required prior to start

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room RN experience
• Active California RN license (or eligibility)
• BSN not required
• Must be prepared for a fast-paced, high-acuity environment

Cancellation Policy: Up to 4 shifts may be cancelled over a 13-week assignment.
