Assistant Director of Nursing – Step Down Unit

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing to provide administrative and clinical leadership for a step-down unit. In this role, you'll oversee daily operations, staffing, and quality metrics while supporting both staff development and optimal patient care outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage unit staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure safe patient care coverage
• Monitor performance metrics, quality indicators, and regulatory compliance
• Conduct performance assessments with nurse managers and implement corrective actions as needed
• Develop and maintain record-keeping systems for medication errors, counseling, and incident tracking
• Support staff development, performance evaluations, and professional growth
• Serve as a clinical resource and escalation point for complex patient care and staff issues
• Collaborate with physicians, department leaders, and hospital administration
• Facilitate staff meetings, education, and onboarding for new team members
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
• Participate in budget planning, supply management, and process improvement initiatives

Requirements

• Active RN license in New York State (primary source verification through NYSED required)
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (MSN preferred)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 7 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or charge nurse role
• Strong leadership, staffing, and performance management skills
