Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit
Location: Louisville, KY
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, days (every other weekend required)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Start Date: November 22, 2026
About the Role
Join the Progressive Care Unit as a Registered Nurse providing skilled care to moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration. You'll deliver close monitoring and intervention in a step-down environment where your assessment and clinical judgment directly shape patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) with telemetry monitoring
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Assess and manage patients post-ICU or at risk of decompensation
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning
- Provide patient and family education on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Document assessments, interventions, and responses accurately in the EMR
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Minimum 1–2 years acute care or PCU/step-down experience
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
- Neuro or stroke unit experience
