PCU / Stepdown

Neuro Stepdown RN — Night Shift | Charlotte, NC

This Neuro Intermediate Care / Stepdown unit specializes in a blended neurological and medical intermediate patient population, including post-neurosurgery, craniotomy, TBI, intracranial bleeds, CVA, aneurysm repair, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, and post-tPA care, alongside general medical intermediate patients.

Assignment Details

• Shift: Nights, 3×12-hour | 18:45–07:15
• Contract Duration: 19 weeks
• Start Date: November 9, 2026
• Orientation: 32 hours (computer training + two supervised unit shifts)
• Scrubs: Navy blue and white combination

Scheduling Expectations

• Minimum 3 weekend shifts per six-week period
• No on-call requirement
• Float to other intermediate areas and critical care/ICU stepdown as needed
• Pre-approved RTO only; no additional RTO requests after contract signing

Required Experience & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years in Neuro Stepdown, PCU, IMC, or comparable unit
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required)
• Neuro experience is mandatory — limited neuro background will not be accepted

Required Clinical Skills

• Titration of vasoactive drips, including levophed and cardiac drips
• IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration
• Telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
• Ventilated patient care, BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy, HFNC, chest tubes
• Central line, PICC, and peripheral IV management; blood product administration
• Heparin and thrombolytic protocols, PCA management
• Continuous bladder irrigation, pre/post hemodialysis management
• Feeding tube care, surgical drains, wound care/wound vac
• Lumbar drain management, ICP monitoring experience preferred

Preferred Certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI

An interview with the unit manager is required prior to placement.
