Medical-Surgical RN — Travel Contract | Cedar Rapids, IA
Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Friday, Saturday, Sunday | 36 hrs/week
Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Start Date: November 16, 2026
About the Unit
This Med-Surg unit manages a general surgical and medical patient population, covering all surgical cases with the exception of orthopedic and spine. Nurses work with moderate-to-high acuity patients requiring vasoactive and cardiac drip management, including amiodarone, diltiazem, heparin, dobutamine, and milrinone. Equipment experience expected includes chest tubes, JP drains, 3-way foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes. Travelers will be expected to float across Med-Surg units within the facility as needed.
Scrubs: Black or Blue
Schedule & Holidays
- Weekend nights: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- Holiday rotation required; must be available to work 1–2 of the applicable upcoming holidays
- No on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of experience in Med-Surg, Stepdown, or Progressive Care
- Experience managing drips: amiodarone, diltiazem, heparin, dobutamine, milrinone
- Equipment proficiency: chest tubes, JP drains, 3-way foley, NG tubes
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license (verified active at time of submission)
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- Med-Surg–specific skills checklist required
- First-time travelers are welcome
Preferred:
- Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, or nurse manager within the past 24 months
Additional Notes
- No locals within 50 miles of the facility
- Valid driver's license required
