Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) — Travel RN

Parkersburg, WV | 13-Week Contract | Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

This CVICU position serves a mixed-acuity unit caring for both step-down and ICU-status patients. The unit manages a high-acuity cardiac and thoracic population, including post-operative open heart surgery (CABG, valve repairs), fresh hearts directly from the OR, and complex diagnoses such as STEMI, NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, pulmonary embolism, and heart failure. Thoracic surgery patients (VATS, lobectomy) are also common.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience with post-op open heart patients (6+ hours post-op minimum; fresh heart experience preferred)
• CRRT, temporary and permanent pacemaker management
• Acute MI pre/post cath care
• Mediastinal and chest tube management
• Ventilator management and hypothermia protocol
• Arterial line experience
• IABP/Impella and Swan-Ganz hemodynamic monitoring (preferred)
• Drip titration required — including vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, sedation, anticoagulation, and inotropes

Schedule & Requirements

• 12-hour day shifts, every other weekend, holidays as needed
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• No on-call requirement
• Travelers float first — primarily to ACU and ICU; Med-Surg/Tele floats capped at 6 patients

Unit Support

• Intensivist in-house; Respiratory Therapy on unit 24/7
• Monitor techs cover telemetry; RNs read their own strips every 4 hours
• 1–2 PCTs per shift
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling requests accommodated

Certifications: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) required

Scrubs: Royal Blue

Orientation: 1 week (modules, unit orientation)

License: Active WV or compact RN license required
