PCU / Stepdown

Step-Down / Medical-Surgical RN — Night Shift | Morgantown, WV

Contract: 13 weeks | Start: October 2026

Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Weekends and holidays as scheduled

Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week

Unit Overview

This combined step-down and medical-surgical unit cares for a broad acute-care population. Common diagnoses include chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, ia, UTI, and abdominal pain, with overflow from multiple services and GIP hospice transitions managed on the unit.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Step-down patients: titrate drips per protocol; telemetry monitoring required — RNs must read strips in conjunction with dedicated monitor techs
• Floor patients: manage PCAs, heparin infusions, and similar set-rate drips
• Respiratory therapy supports ventilated, CPAP, and BiPAP patients
• A charge nurse and house supervisor are always available; nurse aides support the unit when fully staffed

Floating

Travelers may be pulled to other floor or step-down units within the facility.

Requirements

• Active RN license (facility will wait for licensure)
• BLS certification
• Comfortable reading telemetry strips
• COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemption process available)
• Primary residence must be 50+ miles from the facility

Scheduling

• 2 weekends per scheduling period
• Holidays worked into the permanent staff holiday schedule
• Cancellation policy: up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract
