PCU / Stepdown

Medical/Surgical Trauma Step-Down RN | Nights | Morgantown, WV

Contract: 13 weeks | Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every other weekend and rotating holidays required

This step-down unit specializes in high-acuity medical, surgical, and trauma patients, including those with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic fractures, and complex multi-system trauma. Additional clinical focus areas include:

• Respiratory management: BiPAP, CPAP, tracheostomies, and chronic ventilator-dependent patients
• Reconstructive plastic surgery and microvascular free flap care
• Advanced diabetic management (Type 1 and Type 2)
• General surgical interventions and complex wound management
• 24-hour hemodynamic monitoring

Unit Details:

• Step-down level acuity; all beds are continuously monitored with centralized telemetry technicians
• RNs are responsible for basic EKG interpretation
• Titration of drips required (e.g., cardizem, labetalol, amiodarone); no sedative drips on this unit
• Unit charge nurse on each shift; house supervisors available around the clock
• Floating done on a rotational basis
• No on-call requirement
• Scrub color: Royal blue

Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS

Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week

Cancellation Policy: Up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility. Strong assessment skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential.
