Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) — Registered Nurse

San Diego Area, CA | Days 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM | 13-Week Contract

This CVICU position is set within a high-acuity adult and geriatric intensive care environment managing complex cardiovascular, neurological, and multisystem patients. The unit provides comprehensive critical care including post-cardiac surgery (direct from OR), ECMO management, ventricular assist device (LVAD/RVAD) support, IABP, Impella, TAVR, CABG recovery, and pre/post cardiac catheterization care.

Shift & Schedule

• Day shift: 3×12-hour shifts (07:00–19:30)
• Available start dates: 12/14, with additional windows in early 2026
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week cycle; at least one holiday shift required
• Block scheduling (Fri/Sat/Sun) may be available

Float Requirements

Float may be required across the health system (up to five campuses) to like ICU units or lower-acuity med/surg and telemetry units, excluding the ED.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Active California RN license (temp or permanent) required at time of submittal
• BLS and ACLS (both AHA-issued)
• NIHSS

Preferred/Asterisked Certifications

• TNCC, CRRT/CVVHD, LVAD

Key Clinical Skills

Arterial line management, pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring, CVP monitoring, epicardial pacing wire care, external ventricular drain (EVD), hypothermia protocol, continuous IV sedation and paralytic management, ventilator management, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, fresh tracheostomy care, chest tube insertion assistance, procedural sedation, IV insulin protocols, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management.

Minimum Requirements

• 2+ years of concurrent CVICU experience
• Prior travel experience required
• Community hospital background required
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• One supervisory-level reference required
