Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (Step-Down)
Location: San Luis Obispo, CA
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
About the Role
Join the progressive care unit at the facility, where you'll provide direct nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care. You'll manage stable and post-acute cardiac patients, including those recovering from coronary interventions, pacemaker placements, and AICD implants.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver nursing care with accurate ECG rhythm interpretation and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Manage patients during critical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
- Administer medications and IV therapy, including blood products.
- Care for indwelling catheters, drains, and post-procedure sites (e.g., femoral sheath management).
- Collaborate with the monitor technician to verify alarm settings and optimize cardiac monitoring.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to ancillary personnel within scope of practice.
- Float to medical-surgical units as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license (state of practice)
- Associate Degree in Nursing or equivalent
- Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- Current ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIHSS certification (required within 6 months of hire)
- Minimum 6 months cardiac step-down or telemetry experience within the last 2 years
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Basic Dysrhythmia certification
- Critical Care course completion
Schedule: Day shift, 36 guaranteed hours per week. Weekends and on-call as needed per unit requirements.
