Medical-Surgical Nursing – Night Shift

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (36 hours/week)

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: November 9, 2026

About the Role

The facility is seeking experienced Medical-Surgical nurses for its med-surg unit. You'll provide comprehensive care to adult patients with a diverse range of medical and surgical diagnoses, managing varying acuity levels and complex patient needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and respond to patient condition changes; escalate care as needed
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound management and pain control
• Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams on care planning and discharge
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient response accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Typical patient load: 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in Alabama (or compact license as applicable)
• 2+ years recent med-surg nursing experience and travel nursing experience
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN certification preferred
